Stuttering tips for school age students

1. Model a slow easy rate for your child.

2. Limit time pressure to communicate.

3. Reduce stigma associated with stuttering.  Remind your child that your speech can be "bumpy" at times too.  You might say: "Look my speech was bumpy.  I'm going to stretch it out and make it smooth."

4. Anticipate that "bumpy speech" may increase when your child is excited and that is ok!
