Help your child talk in simple play activities

Common Mistakes: asking too many questions, focusing primarily on nouns, and not providing enough models.

Try this instead: Use simple phrases and pause to provide your child with an opportunity to complete the phrase (e.g., put it….. on: when stacking blocks). Focus on different types of words like actions (jump, kick, help) and location concepts (in, out, on). Model the new word over and over again- repetition improves learning! Use sign language and pictures to help your child learn new words.

Activities may include: playing with fidgets, stacking blocks, pushing cars back and forth, reading simple books
