  • 50% of speech understood

  • sounds produced: /p, b, d, m, n, h, w/

  • Follows 2-step directions

  • Knows some body parts and clothing items

  • Understands early pronouns: me, my, you, your

  • Understands yes/no questions

  • Uses at least 50 word but average is 300

  • Combines words (e.g., push car)

  • Grammar emerges: plurals, present progressive -ing

  • Pretend play skills

  • Notices when others are hurt or upset
